The Importance of Empathy

Agnes wants a little bit of glamour, a little bit to be adored. But in fact, she's not too much. It's the world around her that's not enough. That's really the refrain for Agnes through the book. And I think part of writing the book is I had to try and find a place of empathy for my own mother, who I felt that with. This is what life is. She lives with her parents. All she wants is a house with the front door of its own.
