Is There a Scarcity Mindset in Your Finances?
Academia feeds a scarcity mindset, he says. It can cause you to make different kinds of decisions than you would if you were operating under a different mindset. And then the other mindset that I wanted to point out is called anchoring. You get accustomed to the kind of salary you're making either through your funded PhD or maybe from part time work during your PhD. But when you finish the PhD and have these wonderful career opportunities in front of you, you can go forward and say, Oh, wow, they're going to pay me double what I was making during my PhD triple.
