The Problem With Electricity in the Forest
In the early 20th century, loggers used chainsaws and drag saws to cut redwood trees. But these designs were no more efficient or not much more efficient than a couple of experienced soyaers with the misery whip. The modern chainsaw has its own advantages: It's lighter, it's smaller, it's faster at cutting. So how do you get from this era where we're largely the misery whip and then big old drag saws are still very popular?
