The Five Commandments of Storytelling
The turning point is the moment in a story when the value in the unit of story shifts. Either there is a revelation, meaning ne information comes on to the scene that hadn't been known before by the protagonist. Or something active happens, meaning either your protagonist does something, or the secondary characters around the protagonist do something, that changes the value of the scene. So it's less discovery, revelatory turns and more active turns.
