The Privilege of Traveling in Central Asia

I love the whole, I've always been fascinated by Central Asia. My grandparents were diplomats, travelled there a lot. It's kind of the cradle of civilisation. Europe was pretty much in the dark ages. There were Goths and Huns and we were painting our faces blue. But these unbelievably sophisticated societies were trading with their own particular cuisines and styles and languages,. religions, inventions - things like paper, silk, tea, gunpowder. So I loved those, what we call the Stans, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and then Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan. Many of whom have been under the rule of Russia for so long
