The Role of Religion in American Religious Exceptionalism

The notion of American exceptionalism resonates across the religious spectrum. Even the religiously unaffiliated ascribe to those views and then in the consequent political views are a lot more similar to the evangelical brethren than we would expect otherwise. The battle that I think we need to be as a way to preserve democracy is not against religion per se, but against the misuse of religion in the public sphere where we allied that line between church and estate.
