How to Break Through the Paradox of Music Appreciation

The goal of music appreciation is to come to value music for its own sake. Keller points it, this is the same thing when you decide you're going to undertake a liberal education. The liberal education is going to give you values and preferences that you don't currently have. So what do you do there? How do you break through that dilemma?
