I consider this to be a very political film. I had this realization that we have been filming so many men fighting with each other and so little men intimately being there for one another. That was this sort of core idea from which it all started. We thought why do we not show a young friendship between two boys? And actually how gender expectations and pressures murder in a sort of way that friendship. Almost literally, when it takes his own life.
