The History of the Bottle Episode

Todd VanDerWerff: The term "bottle episode" comes from Star Trek. He says it's a form of TV that arose because of economic demands in the 50s and 60s. Now, he says, special effects are cheap but they used to be very expensive. 'Bottle episodes' have been re-used on other shows like Game of Thrones.
