The Congolese's Optimism
When I went to Africa in 1966 it was a place of enormous optimism. Kenya had been through a difficult period of Malma and this wasn't a cover up at all, that's you know reconstructed history. There was a clear awareness of what had happened but the Africans themselves in the country like Kenya were very, very optimistic about their future. They were a sort of shop window for an independent African country. Okay, they've had a problematic political history since but not entirely unsuccessful.
