The History of the Shaft Grave
The era known as the Shaft Grave era was given its name from the Tites of Barials that were found in Mycenae. This is the area that the grave circles that Heinrich Schlemann uncovered belonged to, although dated some few centuries before his beloved Agamemnon. A Shaft Grave is a rectangular area cut out of the rock deep down with a Shaft entrance leading to it from above. The period is normally given the dates of 1600 to 1450 BC, which roughly lines up with the late Heletic I and II chronology.
