The China History Podcast

CHAPTER

The History of Cambodia

Before the Khmer Empire of 802-1431 were the kingdoms of Phunan and Jhanla. When Phunan was at its most powerful, from the 200s to the 500s, they were the most dominant power in Southeast Asia. There's no records of any Chinese settlements in Phunan. It was purely a place for trade or to replenish supplies for those ships sailing in between the most ancient ports of India and Southeast Asia.
