Howd Know What Goes in Your Story?

i'm just curious about, like, getting your arms around a story. And when you set out, like, i think it sounds like the northman is sort of anomalous in that you were looking at this mythology,. I'd like to make something for a broader audience. Did the lighthouse, did the witch, come from different places in you? Was there an urge to tell a certain story, to ask a certain question? And then did the plot beat sort of fall out from that?
