Cell Biology - What's the Difference Between a Biologist and an Academic?

I'm very aware that biologists and physicists and engineers, we all speak slightly different languages. How in practice do you actually begin to overcome this obstacle and actually communicate across these boundaries? Yes, I think there's a bit of trying to understand what the person on the other side of the boundary can do, what they're interested in. If I meet another person who does cell biology, I assume an enormous amount of knowledge and shared technologies to approach a problem together. They need for us to explain to them the kind of problems we're grappling with. That is I think the core to success, to peak someone else's interest in a domain in which they can contribute.
