The Politics of Gender in the United States

Trans people have become caught up in a rejuvenated culture war, waged not only by the right, but also revealingly by segments of the center. I don't think there's one reason that trans youth or children's gender have become the subject of such intense moral panic and extreme politicking. There are more than just rhymes with the 1920s and 1930s and the sort of utility of gender to the liberal nation state. And so it's not really surprising to me that we're in the grips of what might be the millionth moral panic around kids gender and sexuality.
