After sir gawaine and the green knight, there is really only one more remaining arthurian work that has had any lasting impact. And this epic le mortartour was written by thomas mallory, most likely when he was in prison in the 14 seventies. It became a kind of the definitive statement of the king arthur and camelot mythology. But pretty soon after that, mythology faded out of literature. With the renaissance, the classical revival, the new modern forms of literature, it got eclipsed and faded into the background.
