New fossil fuel projects are incompatible with avoiding dangerous climate change. Labour's safeguard mechanism bill relies on carbon offsets and accounting tricks to get Australia to net zero emissions. While still allowing up to 116 fossil fuel projects in the pipeline to go ahead, pumping even more emissions into the atmosphere. The Australia Institute has crunched the numbers on all those projects and what they would do for climate change. To help explain it and break down those numbers today, I'm delighted to talk to climate and energy program director for the Australia Institute, Polly Hemming.
