The Struggles of the Abadi in Muscat

For nearly a thousand years, the focus of government and control in Oman had fallen within the Abadi. In 18th century internal civil war brought in Persians and it was left to a merchant from the interior but it was living in Sohar who raised forces to evict them. That passed on through his sons and his grandsons until they were driven out by a family rival. This created a schism between the interior and the coast and that remained true until the mid to late 1950s when a long time respected imam died.
