What Happens When Someone Responds Defensively?

I prefer face to face, or these days video. It's important to have the conversation because they're going to have a response. What happens when somebody responds defensively? You can just be quiet. And you can also say, listen, i don't want to upset you. Tell me more about how this is landing for you. I would say a lot people have a defensive reaction at first before they have a more enlightened reaction. We say holding space. You can hold space for somebody to have a difficult and emotional reaction. That can go on for five minutes or ten minutes, and it's not their final answer.
