Hawking Radiation Changed Our Understanding of Black Hole
Hawking radiation was really spectacular discovery because nobody saw it coming. Particles are radiating from the edge of that black hole, and the discovery of Hawking radiation changed our understanding of black holes. The idea is really that if you just look at pure gravity, no particles in the universe, just pure gravity, then a black hole creates an event horizon.
