Is There a Big Other in Society?
La Connery: I feel there could be the ego ideal where it's serving social goals. People have these social expectations that they should fit and these are created by all individual members of society, not the bigger,. all individual members and their moral interest. What do you think society should be like? In particular. We're working in new religious and spiritual communities. It's like people are creating little new cultures. And so one of the things they want to do is create a shared experience, right? They want to see that they are a we. But how do you keep that from becoming some kind of a big other where that we feel becomes corrupted and maybe more cult-like or suffers
