Introduction

The Curious Clinicians of Medical Podcast asks why alcohol makes one urinate so much. The effect of alcohol on urination has been observed for centuries and I'll offer an exchange from Macbeth to sort of show that. At least in Shakespeare's time, they were aware of the diuretic effect of alcohol. So it doesn't go as far as some other things, but it goes back fairly far.
