Boris Johnson's Resignation
Nadine Doris' resignation came as a real shock to Boris Johnson. He was facing the privileges committee investigation into whether he had lied to Parliament over the party gates scandal. 10 days suspension would have meant a recall ballot in his seat of Uxbridge and almost certainly a by-election. His original reaction when told that the government wouldn't whip Tory MPs to vote against the sanction was, I'm fucked.
