Is Racism a Part of Conservatism?
i think the racial backlash component of conservatism is something that is not part of the wiggish conservative self understanding. The back lash to the civil rights movement, to things like crime and welfare, those are obviously racially coded. All these issues that conservatives rode to, power, taxes, welfare, crime, et cetera, it's impossible to divorce them entirely from race. I mean, federal power in the 19 sixties is the power to enforce integration, to enforce rising rise.
