What Is a Woman?
Plato is probing here at the meaning of even being able to count things. We can count one, two, three, you know, we have like five oranges, five apples, or whatever. But if we pay attention to e distinctions between objects that stimulate thought, then we will start to understand how there are differences among a certain set of things. In order to be able even to count things at all, i have to be able to make those more fundamental distinctions - what we might call the law of non contradiction.
