Preoperative Planning for Lung Resection Surgery
The two most important things to get on your PFTs in terms of preoperative planning for lung resection surgery are FEV1 and DLCO. If they're both greater than 80%, predicted are considered low risk. For low-bectomies, the way to calculate predicted post-op FEV1 or DLCO is to multiply by 1 minus the segments to be removed over the total preop functional segments.
