I feel like Hitchens has become a raw shark test for people. I am addressing the left because I consider myself on the left, although that probably means less today than it may have meant a few years ago. To me, Hitchens just represents a fairly pure and consistent form of liberalism. And then a general sense of universalism suggests the idea that everyone's life has value and it doesn't matter where you live.
