The Importance of Vocabulary in Conversations

You don't need a giant vocabulary. You can still use very simple words. The vocab is not so important. It's just the topics, the reasons. Talk about the details. Now this other person has a lot to choose from. For example, you know, I love doing Jiu Jitsu. I love going for walks.
