The Most Massive Neutron Star Ever Discovered

A few years ago, they announced the discovery of the most massive neutron star ever discovered. And for like maybe just a little less than a second, that 2.7 solar mass thing stayed as a neutron star before collapsing into a black hole. I was surprised to learn that from a theoretical perspective, that answer might be different for a neutron star that forms from the core collapse of a massive star versus for one that forms from merger of two lower mass stellar remnants.
