The First Civil War in Scotland

King Charles tried to impose on scotland his own idea of a prayer book. This led in 16 29 to the king eventually dismissing or dissolving parliament and not recalling it again for 11 years. Problems with religion were not confined to england. Scotland was much more dominated by hard lined protestants than england. The influence of the radical swiss preacher john calvin had been especially strong in scotland.
