Ideally, yes, I think getting culture results would be helpful. About 50% of individuals with pneumonia never grow out unknown bug from their sputum. At least half, if not most, aren't going to give us an answer in the sputum cultures. So we have to empirically treat or hone our antibiotics to the risk factors that the patient has.
