Building Community in a Global City Like San Francisco

I want to go back a little bit and talk about localism, globalism, a couple of these things. How do you think about building community in a place like this? Is it as been difficult, as it has been pretty straightforward? I have this dream of building this kind of monastic structure somewhere in rural California where there's both full-time almost monks or nuns.
