The Origins of Concrete
French rural agricultural workers trying to make their rammed earth farm buildings last longer by chucking some cheap cement into it is one of the origins of modern concrete. The majority European name for it which is B-E-T-O-M pronounced in different ways according to the country bittoy in French and it's from a medieval French word that means rubbish or sort of stuff left over. Several other countries take words from Latin for it because they're wanting to elevate it into that Roman tradition of the Parthenon so the English concrete is from there.
