The McMurdo Aircraft Approaches Ross Island
The flight plan said they should have been in the area of Antarctica that McMurdo station and Mount Airbus is on, known as Ross Island. The crew was not located by radar equipment prior to the initiation of descent. And it was not picked up for the remainder of the flight. It seems like instead of following traditional compass directions, they're following degrees on a grid.
