Welbeck is a nestalgic in a kind of romantic sense, right? He likes to play with the idea that things were a better in a previous time. There's no, there's nothing but the future, ultimately, in his novels. But equally, we don't have a future because of it. So again, islam becomes a prop for exposing the hollow lives of ofa - just the modern european man or woman.
