The Importance of Compromised Design Decisions

There are compromises whenever you're maximizing for one feature or another. Gold was a great store of value because it had certain properties, but those same properties made it really slow. The reason we needed letters of credit backed by gold was because gold was basically immovable to all effects and purposes.
