There are prosthetic eyes from Spain and Iran, dating back 7,000 years each. We also have Egyptian prosthetic feet made from wood and cartonage. Etruscan, golden dental appliances and teeth,. Roman prosthetic legs and even elaborate hair pieces and wigs. And are these bespoke crafted for the individual? Are they made in a factory in one size fits all? They seem to range from very rudimentary peg legs that you could carve yourself with a minimal knowledge of carpentry through to very elaborate technologically advanced combinations of metal and wood and leather.
