The Pride of a Woman
Marie's mum prepared cloths for her to use as pads, showed her how to fold them and keep them clean. She told me it was the pride of a woman. But circumstances change - Marie is now homeless with a three week old baby. Not being able to afford what you need can heighten feelings of shame around menstruation and bleeding. What's happening now for Marie is undoing everything she was taught by her mother as a girl. It's unknotting the pride she was told to feel.
