The History of Privateering

In the middle of the 16th century Spanish were monopolising gold and silver. Queen Elizabeth felt that something needed to be done to stop their dominance. She enlisted privateers to help England combat the wealth of the Spanish. The introduction of privateering brought some of England's most adventurous sailors to the fore. Some call them the sea dogs and we're going to meet some of them now.
