The Marines and the 2004 Friendly Fire
Duncan Hunter Jr. was in the room at the fire control center that night, one of three men handling the mortar mission. The families of Robert Zuhreide and Brad Schuder were told the men died from hostile fire. When James Mattis overturned the punishments for this friendly fire, he blamed the fog of war. But when you look at the whole scope of this disaster beyond the battlefield, it seems the haze obscuring all of it smells more like smog than fog.
