Cicero was one of Rome's greatest orators and authors in the century just before Jesus. His longing for the old Republic eventually got him hunted down and killed. The assassin, a centurion named Herrhenius, cut off Cicero's head and hands to put them on public display. We have more than 30 of his letters, and they provide invaluable information about the fall of the Roman Republic.
