The Restoration of Occult Movements
Hilma Affklinz was largely marginalized on the basis of her entanglement with occult movements, in particular spiritualism and then later theosophy. It becomes the reason why many, many artists, primarily women artists, get written out of art history. The thing is, we don't really know what they said. And I think with books like yours, Jennifer, and hopefully, the many shows that you have done... We are trying to restore these expansive histories of abstraction.
