The Long View on Assyria

The idea that human beings lived in harmony with nature once upon a time is not true. We create stuff now that doesn't biodegrade, so if you were tough on your environment, but it was just a question of chopping down all the foliage and leaving around biodegradable material, well, that goes away eventually. There seems to be kind of a sort of a cosmic lesson there that we seem to think ourselves immune from.
