The 50-50s remix of Janet Jackson's Together Again is called maximalist. The song has a confectious over the top overly sweet kind of feeling, which is just exactly what a Barbie song ought to be doing. It feels like they're really sort of leaning into the cultural expectations of the genre while also making great commentary on the Barbiness of this music. For me, Cupid is very much in the style of Love Fool by the Carne Giz from the 90s.
