The Change of Gatekeepers
Benedict Evans is one of the best analysts, I think, out there. He used to work for Andreessen Horowitz and he has a free presentation on his website where you can look at basically 104 slides with all statistics. In 1990, about 28% of all retail revenue of the US came into the department stores. Today, this is less than 5%. So you see how their impact is decreasing. The gatekeepers today are social media companies like Google and so on because they have the power to decide what we're exposed to or not exposed to.
