In your latest film, Bardo, the protagonist is a successful Mexican filmmaker who returns to his homeland after living in America for 20 years or so. How did leaving Mexico for you affect your creativity? Well, I live in Mexico 36 years, and I have to say that Mexico City is one of the most fascinating, incredible, I always said that Mexico is not a city, it's a state of mind. So we have all these cultures and these events that are massive that has been creating a mestizo country,. A mixed race country with a lot of wounds open with a lots of riches going on.
