The Unique Characteristics of Biblical Dialogue

The use of dialogue in the Bible, I don't see this anywhere else in ancient literature, is very subtle and very supple. What it amounts to really is the single anticipation in ancient literature of novelistic dialogue. The first words the character speaks are an important characterizing device. This kind of interchange between two speakers in which the character or the social position, sometimes the beliefs of each of the interlocutors is manifested in the words they choose. And when you move into dialogue, there is a complete equation between narrating time and narrated time because the people, the figures are speaking.
