Barbecue Becky started a trend of white women calling the police on black people. April Williams is an assistant professor at the University of Michigan in the Communications and Media Department, and a fellow at Harvard. Since 2018, she has been studying the particular alliterative Twitter memes that barbecue Becky birthed. She now has a data set of over 89,000 tweets making fun of not just barbecue Becky, but also permit Patty or Busburator Brenda. The filming and mocking these women and very occasional man may be funny, but it's not a joke.
