The Pratt & Whitney Report on the Slow Acceleration of the Number One Engine
British Airways regarded the low idle as the prime reason for the slow acceleration of the number one engine, also reported by the crew on the 21st of August. The investigators had a theory that maybe since that left engine thrust reverser was open, that it had been redirecting the fire back onto the fuselage. They did extensive testing on it and they determined that was not the case.
