Inventor William perkin created the first synthetic dye. The colour colo green was a huge hit with fashion editors and designers. But it took years for textile dyers to accept this new method of making dyes. Dyer's guilds were reluctant to mix blue and yellow because they saw mixing as 'transgressive' in many ways.
